Hazel Dress Muslin

So I finally got around to trying the Hazel Dress from Colette Patterns. You can see my original post on patterns that I want to try here.

Well I finally decided to make the muslin for this dress. Now when I say muslin it is not muslin fabric but some broadcloth that I had at home lying around. What were my impressions of putting this dress together:

1. It was easy and I mean super easy. The only clothing that I have ever made have been skirts. With that being said it was still easy to understand
2. The instructions were very thorough and easy to understand

Here is my muslin

It looks great from the front but as you can see it has a bit of a gap by the bust/arm area. Sadly this has always been an issue with my store bought clothing as well.

But I love love love the pockets they turned out awesome. Just in case you are wondering I got extra lazy and just pinned the straps to the bodice so that I could check the fit.

Things that I would change on my dress.

  • I connected the bodice and the skirt wrong so I would look out for that on the actual dress
  • Fuller skirt but I would so love if it was a bubble skirt- because I have a lot of butt
  • May try putting different colors in the bodice
  • Adding sleeves to the bodice

I am still thinking about the fabrics that I would use for this dress. Has anyone ever tried this pattern before?

Do you have any tips?
